University Homework Helpers

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Homework Helpers
The Pittsburgh chapter of Homework Helpers was started by Evan Forti-Hong, a current student at the University of Pittsburgh Law School, and a dedicated advocate for students. With Pittsburgh's education system facing deep challenges—where approximately 70% of students in the Pittsburgh School District are economically disadvantaged—he saw the urgent need for accessible, high-quality academic support.

Our mission is simple: No student should be left behind because of circumstances beyond their control. Through providing free virtual 1-on-1 tutoring, we empower students to overcome academic challenges and and build confidence in their learning. In Pittsburgh—a city defined by resilience and determination—we believe that every student deserves the tools to succeed, no matter where they start.

Volunteer Interest Form
We are currently in need of volunteer tutors. As a volunteer tutor with us, you will provide one hour of homework help a week to a local K-12 student. You will be matched with a local student based on your interests, and the grade levels and subjects you feel most comfortable tutoring.

Become a part of something bigger—volunteer your skills and passion to help a student thrive. Every hour counts!

"Before founding the Pittsburgh Chapter of Homework Helpers, I've had the honor of tutoring, co-founding and organizing for our branch in Buffalo. Throughout my time tutoring it has been consistently reinforced that, with concentrated effort and support, students nearly always rise far beyond what those around them expect.

It's no secret that as people we stand stronger together. Not only have the K-12 students we've tutored soared, but our tutors too have often expressed a deep contentment with the opportunity to give back to their community.

From my limited time in Pittsburgh it's become clear that this is a strong city, filled of kind and friendly people. I have no doubts that together we can help combat the inequalities that still exist within our educational system, and give every child the means to take their future by the reins"
