At Homework Helpers, we’re proud to call Buffalo home. Our roots run deep in this community, and our commitment to closing the education gap here is personal. As a city with a rich history, Buffalo has also faced persistent challenges, especially in its education system. Too many students—especially low-income students—are not given the opportunities they deserve to succeed.

In Buffalo Public Schools (BPS), 9 out of 10 Black and Hispanic students are not able to pass math and ELA exams. Only 7% of students in grades 3-8 are proficient in math, and only 15% of minority students are proficient in English Language Arts. These numbers aren’t just statistics—they represent the dreams of thousands of kids who are being held back, often due to factors outside of their control.

We started Homework Helpers because we know that these disparities don’t define our students. We believe that every child—regardless of their zip code, background, or circumstances—deserves a chance to succeed. We know that with the right support, students can break through these barriers, excel in their studies, and achieve things that once seemed out of reach.

Our Buffalo chapter is dedicated to connecting local K-12 students with passionate volunteers who are committed to providing personalized, one-on-one virtual tutoring. We’re not just here to help kids catch up—we’re here to give them the tools to thrive and succeed, both in school and in life. Together, we are working to change the narrative for Buffalo’s youth and make sure every student has the support they need to succeed, no matter the odds.
Volunteer Interest Form
We are currently in need of volunteer tutors. As a volunteer tutor with us, you will provide one hour of homework help a week to a local K-12 student. You will be matched with a local student based on your interests, and the grade levels and subjects you feel most comfortable tutoring.
